REFLECTING ON THE PAST & LOOKING AHEAD!

Janet (Surrey) and Samuel (Shem) are still glowing from the 2013-2014 almost-year-long run of Bill W. and Dr. at the SoHo Playhouse. And here we are, just a little over a year later, with this remarkable new project! Two nations (Costa Rica and USA), productions in two languages (the bilingual Spanish/English cast), and launching an international tour of USA and Latin America! The brainchild of our Director, Darren Lee Coles. It turns out that he has a theatre in Costa Rica, and we have a house. The other amazing thing is that, since I’ve recently taken a job as Professor of Medicine in Medical Humanities at NYU Langone Medical School, I suggested to the Dean and CEO Robert Grossman, that this project is something you should have your name on, wherever it goes — and use it to create an “Initiative on Alcoholism and its Treatment” — and he said “Let’s do it.” NYU Medical is a great institution, the best I’ve ever seen in terms of its expertise and humanity–so it is natural that they would support this. This time around, we are giving away free tickets both to medical students and to those in recovery communities who cannot pay a dime! We’re fired up! January 8 through 30th at the SoHo Playhouse — only 24 performances, 6 in Spanish, 18 in English (see schedule) and then we move on to Austin Texas, The Long Center. We’ll keep you posted on this site. All of this is not-for-profit. As Dr. Bob put it: “Our service keeps us sober” — and this is our service to the 12-step community, and to those who still suffer, all over the world.
